What it does
3 generic mana white mana: Put a +1/+1 counter on another target attacking creature you control. If that creature is a Cat, it gains first strike until end of turn. (It deals combat damage before creatures without first strike.)
Leonin claws were already deadly weapons of natural evolution before he improved upon them.

Where it came from
Ingenious Leonin was released in the Jumpstart 2022 set, a product designed to facilitate quick, randomized gameplay by combining two distinct themed decks. Within the context of Magic: The Gathering, this card serves as a thematic representative of the Leonin, a race of humanoid lions native to several planes, most notably Theros and Mirrodin. Its inclusion in the set reflects a broader design philosophy of creating accessible, self-contained play experiences that appeal to both new players and those seeking a low-barrier-to-entry format.
The card was illustrated by artist Heonhwa Choe, who focused on the character's tactical, intellectual nature through a vibrant and sharp aesthetic. The artwork emphasizes the leonine traits characteristic of the race while highlighting the 'Ingenious' descriptor through the subject's poised, studious posture. Upon release, the card was received as a solid utility piece within White-aligned decks, praised for its efficient cost and its ability to provide incremental advantage in the fast-paced, synergy-focused environment for which the Jumpstart product line is known.
