Where it came from
Inner Demon was introduced as part of the Jumpstart 2022 set, a product line designed by Wizards of the Coast to facilitate quick, casual games of Magic: The Gathering. The card belongs to the 'Demon' themed deck, reflecting the set's goal of exploring diverse creature types through self-contained, shuffle-together play experiences that appeal to both new players and those seeking unique, thematic additions to their collections.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who is known for his atmospheric and emotionally resonant style within the game. In this piece, Voss captures the essence of a parasitic or internal corruption, aligning with the card's mechanical function of destroying creatures and stripping cards from an opponent's hand. It was received as a flavorful, high-impact inclusion for decks focused on disruption and dark thematic synergy.
