Where it came from
Insatiable Avarice is a card from the Outlaws of Thunder Junction set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2024. The set draws heavily on Western genre tropes, reimagined within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse as a frontier plane defined by high-stakes heists and outlaws. This specific card serves as a thematic centerpiece for the black mana color identity, emphasizing the set's focus on ambition and the cost of power.
The card’s illustration was crafted to evoke the gritty, high-noon atmosphere of a lawless landscape, utilizing sharp lighting and dramatic shadows characteristic of the set's aesthetic direction. As a promo version, card number 91p features unique visual treatments intended to appeal to players and collectors who prioritize the specific art style and limited distribution common to promotional Magic releases.
