Insect

The Insect token, bearing the collector number 12, was released in the 2017 Magic: The Gathering set Hour of Devastation. These tokens were produced to represent creature entities summoned by various cards within the set, most notably the sorcery Hour of Promise, which creates two 2/2 green Insect creature tokens as part of its effect. Like all tokens in the block, this item was designed to integrate visually with the harsh, sun-scorched aesthetic of the plane of Amonkhet.

The illustration for this token was created by artist Deruchenko Alexander. The design focuses on the relentless, swarming nature of the insect plague that plagues the world of Amonkhet, utilizing earthy tones and sharp, jagged forms to convey a sense of immediate threat. The artwork received modest attention from the player base for its role in representing the board-cluttering mechanics of the mid-game, effectively serving its functional purpose in the organized play environment of the time.
