Where it came from
Introduction to Prophecy was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Art Series in 2021. This set was designed by Wizards of the Coast to showcase the detailed illustrations from the corresponding Magic: The Gathering expansion, presenting them on high-quality, borderless cards that emphasize the aesthetic of the Strixhaven plane. These art cards were distributed primarily within Set Boosters as a collectible bonus for fans of the game's visual storytelling.
The piece features artwork by Magali Villeneuve, a celebrated illustrator known for her ethereal and detailed fantasy style. In this depiction, Villeneuve captures the academic yet mystical atmosphere of the Prismari college, blending magical energy with an scholarly aesthetic. Upon its release, the art series was well-received by collectors for providing a cleaner, textless way to appreciate the high-level artistry that defines modern Magic: The Gathering card design.
