Where it came from
Intrude on the Mind was released in early 2024 as part of the Murders at Karlov Manor set for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to function within the set’s top-down 'murder mystery' theme, utilizing the blue-aligned ability to exile nonland permanents and replace them with Illusion tokens. This mechanic reflects the set's narrative focus on Ravnica, specifically the deception and investigative tropes central to the expansion's aesthetic.
The card features illustration by Dominik Mayer, whose work is characterized by dramatic, angular geometry and a distinctive, high-contrast color palette. Mayer’s approach for this piece emphasizes the psychological intrusion inherent in the card's namesake, utilizing bold shapes to convey a sense of sudden, magical disruption. Upon release, the card was noted by players for its versatile utility in competitive formats, serving as a tactical tool for tempo-based strategies.
