Where it came from
Isu the Abominable was released in 2022 as part of the Jumpstart 2022 set for the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to be a centerpiece for a 'Snow' themed deck, functioning as both a thematic representative of the frozen landscapes in the game's lore and a tactical tool that rewards players for utilizing snow-covered permanents.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who crafted a depiction of a towering, yeti-like creature consistent with the aesthetic of high-fantasy northern regions. Within the game's broader context, Isu serves as a niche but well-regarded commander, favored by players who enjoy the specific mechanics of snow-based synergies rather than traditional combat strategies.
