Isshin, Two Heavens as One // Isshin, Two Heavens as One

Isshin, Two Heavens as One was released as part of the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Art Series in 2022. This specific collection featured oversized, borderless art cards designed to showcase the vivid, cyberpunk-inspired aesthetics of the Magic: The Gathering expansion, which reimagined the classic Kamigawa plane through a futuristic lens. These cards were distributed as special inserts within booster packs, intended for collectors who appreciated the standalone visual storytelling of the set’s character designs.

The character of Isshin was illustrated by artist Wisnu Tan. In the lore of the Neon Dynasty set, Isshin is depicted as a legendary tactician from the Imperial court, reflecting the dual nature of traditional samurai values and the high-tech reality of the setting. The artwork aims to balance regal authority with the sleek, neon-infused armor design characteristic of the set’s aesthetic shift, and it was generally well-received by the player base for its striking color palette and dynamic composition.
