Where it came from
Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. The set marked a return to the gothic horror-themed plane of Innistrad, focusing on themes of harvest festivals, werewolf transformations, and the return of the sun. Jadar is depicted as a necromancer associated with the morbid rituals of Nephalia, a region known for its dreary coastal towns and proximity to the undead.
The artwork for the Art Series version of this card features the digital illustration style characteristic of modern Magic: The Gathering, emphasizing the moody, atmospheric color palette of the set. These Art Series cards were released as promotional collector items, featuring the card illustration on the front with an artist credit and the card title on the back, intentionally omitting the game mechanics to serve as a high-quality display piece for collectors of the set's aesthetic design.
