Jin-Gitaxias // Jin-Gitaxias

The March of the Machine Art Series was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2023 as a specialized line of collector items celebrating the conclusion of the Phyrexians' invasion arc in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This specific card represents the character Jin-Gitaxias, the Praetor of the Progress Engine, who serves as a primary antagonist within the game's lore. The series was designed to highlight the high-fidelity artwork featured on the main set's cards, providing collectors with a clean, frame-less view of the illustrations intended to showcase the intricate detail of the Phyrexians' mechanical-biological aesthetic.

The artwork for this piece was crafted by artist Daarken, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering franchise. In designing this depiction of Jin-Gitaxias, the illustrator aimed to convey the character's cold, calculating nature and his obsession with artificial evolution. The piece is highly regarded for its stark lighting and the clinical, unsettling texture of the character's armor, effectively capturing the transition of the Praetor into his completed form during the climactic conflict of the set.
