Where it came from
Junk Winder was released in 2024 as part of the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander set, a collection themed around a classic 'whodunit' detective mystery set on the plane of Ravnica. The card was designed to support token-heavy strategies, rewarding players for flooding the board with artifacts or creatures by tapping down opposing permanents, which reflects the chaotic, mechanical nature of its namesake.
The artwork, illustrated by Billy Christian, captures the frantic energy of the contraption, featuring a sprawling, intricate device consistent with the Izzet League's penchant for hazardous engineering. The card is a reprint of an earlier design, maintaining its utility as a powerful control piece in multiplayer Commander games where the ability to neutralize multiple threats simultaneously is highly valued.
