Provenance

Where it came from

Junún Efreet was originally introduced in the Arabian Nights expansion in 1993, the first expansion set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed by Richard Garfield, the card drew thematic inspiration from the folklore of One Thousand and One Nights. The illustration, created by artist Christopher Rush, features a striking, ethereal djinn, aligning with the set's high-fantasy interpretation of Middle Eastern mythology.

The card was later reprinted in the 1995 Fourth Edition core set, which served as a foundational release for the game's standardized white-bordered aesthetic. While the card is mechanically noted for its upkeep cost and high power, its presence in the Fourth Edition remains a distinct point of interest for collectors, as it marks the transition of early, niche-themed cards into the broader, more accessible structure of the game's classic era.
