Where it came from
Kronch Wrangler was released in 2019 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set War of the Spark. The card was designed to function within the set's proliferate-focused mechanics, which emphasize the accumulation of counters on permanents. As a common creature, it was crafted to support the draft environment, providing players with a consistent way to grow their board state as they cast other creatures with power four or greater.
The artwork was illustrated by Jason Felix, who utilized a dynamic, aggressive style to capture the creature's nature as an Ogre Warrior. The design reflects the high-stakes, multiversal conflict depicted in the set, where Ravnica is besieged by Nicol Bolas. While the card is not a centerpiece of competitive tournament play, it is recognized for its thematic consistency within the Gruul guild's identity, focusing on raw strength and growth.
