Where it came from
Krond the Dawn-Clad was released as part of the Planechase 2012 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, specifically featuring as the face card for the 'Primordial Hunger' deck. Designed as a legendary creature with a mana cost tied to the colors of G/W, it embodies the set's focus on the ethereal and chaotic shifting of planes, utilizing the Aura-focused mechanics prevalent in its color identity to dominate the battlefield through aggressive enchantment synergy.
The character design was illustrated by Izzy, who captured Krond as an imposing, celestial entity clad in radiant armor. The art was intended to convey a sense of ancient, untamed power consistent with the lore of the Multiverse's primordial forces. Upon its release, the card was received as a niche but effective commander for Aura-based strategies, praised for its formidable built-in evasion and protection abilities which reward players for committing multiple enchantments to a single permanent.
