Provenance

Where it came from

Krosa, numbered 20 in the Planechase Planes collection, represents the verdant, shifting forest landscape of the Dominarian continent Otaria. Introduced as part of the 2012 Planechase release, this oversized card was designed to function within the supplemental multiplayer format that simulates planar travel. The illustration, rendered by artist Jim Nelson, emphasizes the dense, mana-rich flora of the region, intended to evoke the chaotic and untamed nature of the Krosan Forest during the events of the Onslaught block.

The Planechase line was conceptualized by Wizards of the Coast to offer a more dynamic experience for multiplayer Magic: The Gathering, replacing static battlefield conditions with planar effects that shift throughout the game. The Krosa card specifically utilizes the plane's unique mechanics to allow players to search their libraries for lands, reflecting the forest's immense natural growth. Critics and players generally received the set as a successful bridge between legacy lore and innovative, interactive gameplay mechanics.
