Spirit Flare

Spirit Flare was released in 2002 as part of the Torment expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was famously designed with a heavy emphasis on the color black, challenging the traditional balance of the game by providing black decks with powerful tools while intentionally weakening other colors. As a white instant, Spirit Flare fits into the game's mechanics of reactive play, allowing a player to deal damage to a tapped creature based on the number of creatures they control.

The card features artwork by rk post, a prolific and highly recognizable illustrator within the Magic community during the early 2000s. Known for a distinctively edgy and surreal aesthetic, post's contribution to Torment helped define the darker, more gothic tone of the set.
