Laccolith Warrior

Laccolith Warrior was released in the year 2000 as part of the Nemesis expansion set for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused heavily on the mechanics of the Rath plane and introduced the 'banding-adjacent' style ability known as 'banding' for creatures, or in this case, a pseudo-trample effect where the creature could assign its damage to a blocking creature rather than the player. It represents the aggressive, red-aligned creatures common to the set’s volcanic and mountainous themes.

The card features artwork by Mike Dringenberg, a legendary illustrator best known for his foundational work on The Sandman series. Dringenberg employed his distinct, gritty illustrative style to capture the raw, destructive energy of the warrior. Upon release, the card was received as a solid, functional addition to red-aggro decks, praised for its ability to bypass standard defensive tactics during the combat phase.
