Land's Edge

Land's Edge was released in 1995 as part of the Chronicles expansion set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was unique in the game's early history, functioning primarily as a compilation or 'reprint' set designed to provide players with broader access to cards that had previously appeared in limited-distribution sets like Arabian Nights, Antiquities, and Legends. Its inclusion in Chronicles allowed players to integrate these older, previously scarce cards into standard tournament play, effectively stabilizing the game's mechanical ecosystem at the time.

The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most prolific and iconic illustrators in early Magic history, most famously known for illustrating the original Black Lotus. For Land's Edge, Rush utilized his characteristic painterly style to depict a dramatic, rugged coastal precipice, capturing the card's theme of discarding resources for direct damage. While the card is often remembered as a niche utility piece within the red color identity, it remains a tangible artifact of the mid-1990s effort to curate and reissue the game's formative design elements.
