Where it came from
Lightning Shrieker was introduced in the 2020 Jumpstart set for Magic: The Gathering, a product designed to facilitate a unique, randomized 'pick-up-and-play' limited format. The set focused on thematic synergies, and this card was designed as a high-cost, aggressive aerial threat within the red color identity to support the archetype's fast-paced, direct-damage playstyle.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who contributed to a wide array of Magic sets during this era. The artwork leans into the creature’s elemental nature, emphasizing the kinetic energy of a storm-infused beast. Upon its release, it was regarded by the community as a solid, functional piece for the Jumpstart draft environment, appreciated for its ability to repeatedly return to the hand and provide consistent pressure in matches.
