Lotus Blossom

Released in 1998 as part of the Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering, the Lotus Blossom was designed as a thematic successor to the iconic Black Lotus, though it functioned with a significantly different mechanic to account for modern power-level balancing. The set was centered on the artificer Urza and emphasized artifact-heavy gameplay, resulting in a design language that favored complex mechanical interactions and resource management over the raw, explosive power of the game's earliest sets.

The card features artwork by Greg Hildebrandt, a prolific fantasy artist known for his work on the Lord of the Rings calendars. Hildebrandt sought to capture a sense of ethereal, mystical beauty, utilizing rich colors and soft, sweeping lines to differentiate the artifact from the more rigid mechanical components found elsewhere in the Urza's Saga set.
