Where it came from
Magnify was released in 1999 as part of the Urza's Destiny expansion, the final set in the Urza block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. During this period, the game designers were focused on mechanics that rewarded players for holding large hands of cards, a recurring theme throughout the Urza storyline which depicted the artificer Urza’s complex technological preparations for the Phyrexian invasion.
