Where it came from
Man of Measure was released in 2004 as part of the Unhinged set, Wizards of the Coast's second foray into 'silver-bordered' parody cards for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed to explore comedic mechanics that broke the traditional rules of the game, offering a lighter alternative to the serious, competitive tournament environment of the time.
The card was illustrated by Greg Staples, who leaned into the humorous, literal-minded concept of the creature. In the game's mechanics, the card rewards players for physical reach, requiring them to use their arm span to interact with the game state. It remains a notable example of the experimental, fourth-wall-breaking design philosophy that defines the Unhinged expansion.
