Where it came from
Mana Drain was originally printed in the 1994 Legends expansion, emerging from a period in Magic: The Gathering history characterized by high-variance card design and powerful, game-altering spells. As a counterspell that grants the player additional mana equal to the converted mana cost of the countered card, it quickly established itself as one of the most potent defensive tools in the game, eventually earning a place on the restricted list in several competitive formats for many years.
The Double Masters 2022 version, numbered 57, serves as a high-end reprint intended for both competitive players and collectors who appreciate the game's iconic history. The artwork for this specific iteration honors the legacy of the original card while utilizing the modern frame and premium aesthetic standards of the Double Masters set, which focuses on providing powerful, high-utility cards to the player base with updated, stylized visuals.
