Mana Tithe originally debuted in the 2007 set Planar Chaos as part of the Time Spiral block, designed to explore 'color pie' shifts where mechanics traditionally found in one color appeared in another. By granting white, a color defined by order and rules, the ability to counter spells, the card challenged established gameplay conventions. The Time Spiral Remastered version released in 2021 serves as a tribute to this experimental era, consolidating the most influential designs from the original block into a refined, curated experience for players.

The artwork by Martina Pilcerova maintains the visual identity of the original illustration, capturing a moment of divine or legalistic intervention that forces an opponent to pay extra mana or see their spell fail. Pilcerova’s style emphasizes the imposing, structural aesthetic of white-aligned magic.
