Where it came from
The Manifest token was released in 2021 as part of the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander set, a supplemental product for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed to facilitate the 'Manifest' mechanic, a game state introduced earlier in the Khans of Tarkir block that allows players to turn the top card of their library face down as a 2/2 creature. The inclusion of this token in the Strixhaven Commander decks provided players with a dedicated physical representation for these manifested permanents.
The artistic direction for the token reflects the aesthetic of the Strixhaven plane, emphasizing a magical, scholarly, and ethereal visual style. As with many tokens in the modern era of the game, the illustration was commissioned to maintain visual consistency with the card types it represents, ensuring clarity for players during gameplay. The token was received as a functional necessity, helping to streamline interactions involving the Manifest keyword during multiplayer Commander sessions.
