Where it came from
Mantle of the Ancients was released in 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Fallout Commander set, a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Bethesda Softworks. This expansion was designed to integrate the aesthetic and thematic elements of the post-apocalyptic video game series into the mechanics of the card game. The set highlights iconic gear, factions, and survivalist tropes that define the Fallout franchise, with this specific card reflecting the series' emphasis on relic-hunting and vault exploration.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Livia Prima, who utilized a distinct illustrative style to capture the mystical and rugged essence of an ancient, enchanted garment within the radioactive wasteland. The design serves a mechanical purpose within the game, functioning as an Aura that empowers creatures by bringing forth equipment from a player's library. It was received by the player community as a staple utility card for artifact-themed decks, appreciated for both its thematic adherence to the scavenger culture of the Fallout universe and its functional efficiency.
