Where it came from
Master of Ceremonies was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set. This card reflects the expansion's art deco, 1920s-inspired aesthetic, focusing on the opulent and treacherous underworld of a city built by demons. The design mechanic centers on the 'council' political cycle, encouraging players to negotiate during gameplay, which mirrors the theme of backroom dealings central to the set's narrative.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who utilized a bold, high-contrast style typical of the set's visual identity to capture the charismatic yet manipulative nature of a mob-affiliated host. Upon its release, it was well-received by the Commander community for its scaling potential in multiplayer environments, serving as a tactical tool that rewards social engagement and table interaction.
