What it does
Semifinalist Matt Linde is no stranger to high-level Magic® competition. The 18-year-old Maryland native was the 1998 U.S. National Champion. Linde played a very fast mono-green "Stompy" deck with 26 creatures—24 of which cost two mana or less to play. Supplementing this furious creature assault were four Rancors and four Giant Growths. Though the deck was designed to win by turn five, it did feature four Cursed Scrolls in case the game dragged on.

Where it came from
The 1999 World Championship Decks were released by Wizards of the Coast to allow players to experience the high-level strategies used by the top eight competitors at the 1999 Magic: The Gathering World Championship in Tokyo. These decks were non-tournament legal replicas of the exact lists played by the pros, featuring gold-bordered cards and unique card backs, making them a significant historical artifact for understanding the competitive meta of the late 1990s.
Matt Linde’s deck from this set, colloquially known as 'Linde-Go,' represented a sophisticated control archetype that relied on resource denial and card advantage. The design of these cards mirrors the original printings from the Urza’s Saga block, maintaining the iconic artwork and layout established by the game’s original illustrators. Because these cards were mass-produced as static sets rather than randomized booster packs, they have remained a staple for collectors interested in the evolution of Magic’s professional history.
