Where it came from
Megrim was first introduced in the Stronghold expansion in 1998, designed as a classic black enchantment that punishes opponents for discarding cards. The card quickly became a staple in discard-focused strategies, often paired with spells that forced multiple discards to rapidly deplete an opponent's life total.
The Tenth Edition version, released in 2007, marked a return of the card to the core set environment. It features updated artwork by Greg Staples, who moved away from the more visceral original illustration to a style that better fit the refined visual standards of the modern frame, maintaining the card's role as a cornerstone for synergy-based black decks.
