What it does
Mendicant Core's power is equal to the number of artifacts you control.
Start your engines! (If you have no speed, it starts at 1. It increases once on each of your turns when an opponent loses life. Max speed is 4.)
Max speed — Whenever you cast an artifact spell, you may pay 1 generic mana. If you do, copy it. (The copy becomes a token.)

Where it came from
The Mendicant Core, Guidelight was released as part of the Aetherdrift expansion, a set designed to evoke the aesthetic of floating, celestial architecture amidst a fractured, ethereal landscape. Within the lore of the series, these cores serve as navigation beacons for travelers crossing the unstable rifts of the Aetherdrift, reflecting the expansion's core theme of discovery and disorientation.
The visual identity for this card was crafted to contrast the organic, weathered appearance of the mendicant with the stark, radiant geometry of the guidelight itself. Illustrators focused on a palette of soft ambers and deep indigos to emphasize the atmospheric conditions of the set. Upon its debut, the card was noted by players for its unconventional utility in deck-building, eventually becoming a staple piece for those interested in the meta-narrative of the expansion.
