Provenance

Where it came from

Mindsplice Apparatus was released as part of the Phyrexia: All Will Be One set in early 2023, representing the mechanical integration of the Phyrexians upon the plane of Mirrodin. The card functions as a mana-cost reducer for instant and sorcery spells, mechanically embodying the theme of proliferating oil and systemic technological corruption characteristic of the set's antagonists.

The promotional variant, numbered 63s, features the distinct 'Ichor' treatment, an aesthetic style designed by the Wizards of the Coast art team to evoke the visceral, biomechanical horror of the Phyrexians. This style utilizes striking, high-contrast linework and a muted, sickly color palette, which was widely praised by players for effectively capturing the oppressive atmosphere of the New Phyrexia setting.
