Where it came from
Mishra's Foundry was introduced in the 2022 expansion The Brothers' War, a set designed to evoke the high-fantasy industrial conflict between the brothers Urza and Mishra. This card represents the mechanical ingenuity of Mishra's forces, functioning as both a land resource and a creature that can be animated during combat. The design intentionally mirrors the utility of classic Magic: The Gathering utility lands like Mishra's Factory, bridging the gap between historical set lore and modern gameplay mechanics.
The artwork, illustrated by Alayna Danner, captures the gritty, artifact-heavy aesthetic central to the set's theme. Danner focused on depicting the foundry as an imposing, functional piece of heavy machinery integrated into the landscape, emphasizing the industrial nature of Mishra’s faction. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its versatility and its ability to fit seamlessly into artifact-focused deck strategies, solidifying its place as a reliable utility staple in various competitive formats.
