Where it came from
The Fall of Kroog was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion set The Brothers' War. The card depicts a pivotal moment in the franchise's deep lore, specifically the catastrophic siege of the city of Kroog by the forces of Mishra, which served as a major escalation in the decades-long conflict between the brothers Urza and Mishra.
The artwork was created by illustrator Antonio José Manzanedo. His design approach focuses on conveying the immense scale and mechanical horror of the Phyrexians and the Brothers' War era machines, emphasizing the destructive impact of the siege on the city's architecture and inhabitants. The card was well-received by fans of the game's long-running narrative for its vivid portrayal of an iconic historical event.
