Provenance

Where it came from

Mnemonic Sliver was introduced in the 1997 Magic: The Gathering set Tempest, acting as a foundational member of the Sliver creature type. The set was designed to introduce a modular, hive-mind mechanic where creatures shared their abilities with others of the same type, fundamentally changing the game's approach to board state interactions.

The artwork for the card was created by Randy Asplund-Faith, who focused on the insectoid, evolving aesthetic that defined the early Slivers. While the creature type would go on to have a long and complex history across many expansions, the Tempest printing remains a significant piece of 1990s trading card design that prioritized a cohesive visual identity for a new, experimental tribe.
