Mogg Assassin

Mogg Assassin was originally printed in the 1998 Exodus expansion, the final set in the Rath Cycle of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, the card reflects the thematic focus on the plane of Rath, a chaotic, artificial dimension where the goblin-like Mogg creatures served as expendable pawns for the Phyrexian invaders. Mechanically, the card utilizes a coin-flipping mechanic, a hallmark of chaotic 'red' mana-aligned cards designed to simulate the unpredictable and reckless nature of goblin warfare.

The artwork was provided by Dermot Power, an illustrator known for his extensive contributions to the game during the late 1990s. Power’s interpretation captures the creature in a predatory, shadowy stance, leaning into the darker aesthetic of the Rath block.
