Beastmaster Ascension

Beastmaster Ascension first appeared in the Zendikar expansion released in 2009, designed by Wizards of the Coast to emphasize the set's central 'Landfall' and creature-focused mechanics. It functions as a powerful enchantment that rewards aggressive playstyles, growing in potency as the player engages in combat. The card was conceptualized during a period when the game was shifting toward more dynamic board states, aiming to provide green-aligned decks with a reliable win condition that escalates over several turns.

The card features illustration by Dominick Domingo, who provided a visceral depiction of the enchantment's theme of rapid growth and primal power. Over the years, the card has been reprinted in various supplemental sets, including the version appearing on 'The List'—a curated selection of cards that Wizards of the Coast occasionally inserts into set booster packs to provide players with reprints of notable cards from throughout the game's history. It remains a staple in the Commander format due to its ability to swing the momentum of a game in a single combat phase.
