Mons's Goblin Raiders is part of the 1994 Summer Magic expansion, often referred to by collectors as the Edgar set. This set was intended to be a corrected reprint of the Revised Edition, designed to fix various print errors and color imbalances found in the original base set. However, a significant printing error caused the entire print run to be recalled and largely destroyed, making cards from this set exceptionally rare and sought after by those who appreciate the history of early Magic: The Gathering.

The artwork was created by Jeff A. Menges, a staple illustrator during the formative years of the game.
