Where it came from
The Elvish Archers card from the 1994 Summer Magic set, also colloquially known as the Edgar set, holds a unique place in trading card history due to its accidental release. The set was intended to be a corrected reprint of the Revised Edition, addressing errors and balancing issues, but it suffered from a significant series of printing blunders, including incorrect card art and shifted colors. Because of these anomalies, the entire print run was ordered to be destroyed, with only a small quantity surviving to enter the secondary market.
The artwork for this specific edition retains the classic aesthetic established in the early days of the game, characterized by a hand-painted, high-fantasy style that prioritizes atmospheric texture over modern digital crispness. The design remains consistent with the original Unlimited Edition printing, but its scarcity and the lore surrounding its near-destruction have made it one of the most sought-after rarities for collectors focusing on the misprints and test sets of the mid-1990s.
