What it does
Vigilance, trample
If one or more +1/+1 counters would be put on Mowu, that many plus one +1/+1 counters are put on it instead.
In his sleep, he twitched and snarled, dreaming of glorious battle against the undead hordes.

Where it came from
Mowu, Loyal Companion was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Foundations Jumpstart set, designed to serve as an accessible entry point for new players while maintaining the rich flavor of the game's Multiverse. The character originates from the plane of Jiang Yanggu’s home, first appearing in the core Magic narrative as the fiercely devoted dog of the planeswalker Jiang Yanggu, embodying the theme of loyalty through its signature ability to grow stronger alongside its master.
The card’s design emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between Mowu and his owner, utilizing counter-based mechanics that reward players for expanding their board state. The illustration captures Mowu’s adventurous and protective spirit, aligning with the artistic direction of the set, which focuses on iconic character tropes and gameplay mechanics that are intuitive yet deeply strategic for fans of green-aligned creature synergies.
