What it does
Vigilance, trample
If one or more +1/+1 counters would be put on Mowu, that many plus one +1/+1 counters are put on it instead.
Wherever Yanggu goes, Mowu follows—sometimes at his side, sometimes obscuring him from view entirely.

Where it came from
Mowu, Loyal Companion was first introduced as a card in the 2019 set War of the Spark, representing the faithful canine companion of the planeswalker Jiang Yanggu. The character was designed to emphasize the bond between the warrior and his beast, drawing upon themes of loyalty and companionship that resonate throughout the Magic: The Gathering lore. In Commander Masters, released in 2023, the card was reprinted with the collector number 306, serving as a high-profile inclusion in a set specifically curated to support the Commander format.
The artwork for this particular iteration reflects the distinct aesthetic of the Commander Masters set, which often features unique visual treatments to celebrate iconic cards from the game's history. The illustration captures Mowu's fierce yet protective nature, consistent with the visual language established for the character in previous expansions. The card was received favorably by players looking to integrate a resilient, growing threat into their green-aligned Commander decks, reinforcing its status as a staple for fans of creature-focused strategies.
