Lore

Why it matters

This card allows players to sacrifice a creature to search their library for a card that shares a color with the sacrificed unit, adding a strategic layer of deck thinning and tutor-like consistency to the table. As a common from this specific set, it serves as an accessible utility tool for players looking to refine their board state and reliably pull key pieces from their library during play.

Card face

What it does

When you set this scheme in motion, put five +1/+1 counters on a creature you control and it gains flying and vigilance until end of turn. If you control no creatures, instead create a 4/4 colorless Scarecrow artifact creature token with vigilance.

Provenance

Where it came from

My Followers Ascend is a card featured in the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set, released in 2024. The set draws heavy inspiration from 1980s horror tropes and survivalist aesthetics, placing players within the confines of an infinite, ever-shifting haunted house. This card serves as a thematic piece within the deck, emphasizing the horror genre's reliance on psychological manipulation and the dark, inevitable rise of a cult-like following.

The visual design emphasizes the uncanny and surreal elements of the Duskmourn setting, utilizing high-contrast lighting and unsettling imagery to convey a sense of dread. The card was crafted by Wizards of the Coast as part of a specialized Commander product, designed to provide players with unique mechanical interactions that fit the set's narrative of encroaching shadows and supernatural transformation.
