Myr Incubator was released in the 2003 Mirrodin expansion, the first set in a block centered entirely on metallic, artifact-driven mechanics. Designed to showcase the artificial ecosystem of the plane of Mirrodin, the card reflects the thematic focus on manufacturing and proliferation that defined the set's identity. It was crafted by Wizards of the Coast to support artifact-heavy strategies, embodying the industrial aesthetic of the setting through its ability to transform raw metallic scraps into an army of Myr constructs.

The artwork was provided by Jim Nelson, whose style was instrumental in establishing the gritty, metallic visual language of the early Mirrodin block.
