Mystical Teachings

Mystical Teachings first appeared in the Time Spiral expansion, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2006. Designed as an instant that allowed players to search their library for other instant cards, it became a cornerstone of control decks during its era. The card was created to provide versatility and late-game consistency, embodying the set's focus on revisiting and remixing mechanics from the game's history.

The card's illustration was provided by artist Zoltan Boros and Gabor Szikszai, who were tasked with depicting the act of learning ancient, forbidden magical arts. The artwork conveys a sense of scholarly discovery, featuring a figure illuminated by glowing parchment in a dimly lit library. Upon its release, the card was well-received by competitive players for its utility, and it has since been reprinted across various supplemental sets like The List to ensure continued availability for eternal formats.
