Where it came from
Nightpack Ambusher was released in 2019 as a promotional card for the Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2020. It was distributed primarily through Friday Night Magic events, a longstanding community-focused program designed to bring local players together in hobby stores. This particular iteration features alternate art that highlights the aggressive, predatory nature of the creature, a common thematic staple in the game's werewolf-themed cards.
The art for this promo version was illustrated by Jesper Ejsing, a prolific artist known for his vibrant and dynamic work within the fantasy genre. By focusing on the shifting form of the werewolf, Ejsing aimed to capture the tension of the card's flash ability, which allows it to be played at instant speed. The piece was received positively by the community for its fluid motion and atmospheric lighting, reinforcing its status as a sought-after version for players who prefer cohesive, illustrated card sets.
