Where it came from
Bishop of Wings was first introduced in the Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2020, released in July 2019. It serves as a key piece of tribal synergy for Angel decks, designed to bolster lifegain strategies by creating 4/4 Angel creature tokens whenever an Angel dies. The card reflects the set's thematic emphasis on returning to core mechanical identities, providing a resilient white creature that rewards players for keeping their flying protectors on the battlefield.
The 8p version is a promotional variant featuring alternate art by artist Magali Villeneuve. Known for her expressive, high-fantasy style, Villeneuve focused on the serene yet powerful stature of the Bishop to elevate the card's visual identity beyond its standard set printing. This specific promo was primarily distributed through game store events, where it became a favored collectible for players looking to customize their decks with unique, artist-driven aesthetics.
