Niko Aris // Niko Aris

Niko Aris was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion Kaldheim, a set heavily inspired by Norse mythology and Viking culture. As a planeswalker capable of manipulating mirrors and reflections, Niko Aris was designed as the game's first non-binary character, created by the development team at Wizards of the Coast to bring greater inclusivity to the multiverse. The Art Series cards, including this collector number 63, were released as promotional inserts intended to showcase the high-quality illustrations produced for the set's cards in a larger, borderless format.

The illustration for this card was crafted by artist Miyuli, who employed a distinct, stylized approach to emphasize Niko's agile and athletic nature. By stripping away the traditional card frame and game mechanics, the Art Series allows the viewer to focus entirely on the artistic composition and the character's signature ethereal aesthetic. Upon release, the card was well-received by the community for its vibrant color palette and for the thoughtful representation behind the character's design.
