Where it came from
The Nomads en-Kor card appeared as part of the 1998 World Championship Decks, a series of preconstructed sets that replicated the exact 60-card decks used by finalists at the Magic: The Gathering World Championship. These decks were printed with gold-bordered backs and distinct signatures on the front, serving as a commemorative tool that allowed players to experience high-level competitive deck strategies from the tournament circuit.
Originally debuted in the Stronghold expansion set, the Nomads en-Kor was designed by the Wizards of the Coast team to introduce the 'en-Kor' creature mechanic, which allowed players to redirect damage dealt to the creature to another 'Kor' creature they controlled. This mechanic proved highly influential in tournament play, particularly when combined with damage-prevention effects, and the 1998 World Championship reprint captured the card's essential role in the 'ProsBloom' and 'Rec-Sur' archetype environments of that competitive era.
