Where it came from
Nomads en-Kor was released in 1998 as part of the Stronghold expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a core member of the en-Kor creature cycle, the card was designed to highlight the set's signature damage-redirection mechanic, which allowed players to shift damage from one creature to another in a way that fundamentally altered combat strategy during that era of the game.
The card features artwork by the prolific illustrator Heather Hudson, who was tasked with visualizing the nomadic, protective nature of the en-Kor culture. Her design focused on an ethereal, defensive aesthetic that helped establish the visual identity of the Rath block, and the card was widely utilized in competitive environments for its ability to protect key creatures from targeted removal and combat damage.
