Provenance

Where it came from

Nomads en-Kor was originally printed in the 1998 Stronghold set as part of the Rath Cycle, representing the nomadic tribes dwelling in the harsh deserts of Rath. The card mechanics, which allow the redirection of damage to the nomad, were a thematic innovation designed to emphasize the selfless, collective survival strategies of the Rathian desert-dwellers.

This specific iteration appears in the Mystery Booster 2 set, a curated compilation designed by Wizards of the Coast to celebrate the history of Magic: The Gathering through a randomized, play-focused experience. The art by Greg Staples retains the original's gritty, atmospheric aesthetic, which was lauded upon release for its departure from high-fantasy archetypes, opting instead for a weathered, survivalist portrayal of the character.
