Where it came from
Omniclown Colossus // Pie-roclasm was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, a supplemental expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the set was conceived as a lighthearted, humorous addition to the game's broader universe, breaking traditional mechanical and thematic rules. This specific card represents a double-faced design, reflecting the chaotic circus aesthetic central to the set's creative direction.
The art and mechanical concept for this card lean into the carnival-inspired slapstick theme prevalent throughout Unfinity. By utilizing the double-faced format, the card allows players to engage with the game's meta-humor through unique mechanics that trigger during play. Upon its release, it was well-received by players who enjoy the game's more whimsical side, serving as a standout example of how the design team balances complex game systems with playful, absurdist storytelling.
